"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
- Phil 4:8
I invite everyone to view our website and perceive the message of love and faith central to Catholic teaching. I also extend my word of thanks to all who contributed to create this website and give it life.
We are living in a cyber-world where everything becomes accessible, though not always necessarily valuable; in fact, many elements of the cyber-world run counter to the central principles of Catholic teaching. This is what makes Our Lady of Loreto’s website so important. It has been created for the single purpose of evangelization; furthermore, it is a new kind of evangelization, one that uses the medium of social media in order to spread the Gospel of Jesus. In the past two years, we have been challenged by a pandemic which has affected everyone’s life, often creating a sense of hopelessness and fear; the creation of this website was, to a certain extent, a means of utilizing the same medium that has often created doubt and fear to strengthen the faith of the People and give them hope.
Pope Paul VI stated, “The Church would feel guilty before the Lord if she did not utilize these powerful means that human skill is daily rendering more perfect” for evangelization. Pope John Paul II called the media “the first Areopagus of the modern age,” and declared: “It is not enough to use the media simply to spread the Christian message and the Church's authentic teaching. It is also necessary to integrate that message into the ‘new culture' created by modern communications with new languages, new technologies and a new psychology. Doing this is all the more important today, since not only do the media now strongly influence what people think about life but also to a great extent human experience itself is an experience of media.” Pope Benedict XVI agreed that one of the ways that evangelization can be facilitated in this age and time is through the use of social media, a reality made possible through new technologies. In his message for the 2009 World Communications Day, the Pope Emeritus exhorted the youth to introduce into the culture of this new environment of communications and information technology the values on which they have built their lives. It is extremely important to use our social media outlets to counter the negative influence of a counter culture that ignores the reality of God and the moral values essential to a stable family and community. It would be used to invite individuals to listen to the word of God, invite them to participate in the Liturgy of the Church; the essence of Social media would be to reach out to those who have left their faith or who are searching for that light in the darkness – the Hope that the Catholic Faith and its sacraments can bring. It’s also an opportunity to trace the history of Our Lady of Loreto and remember those who, through faith and sacrifice, laid the foundation for building up, and expanding and strengthening this parish community as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Loreto’s Parish Foundation.
Among all these elements, central to our purpose would be the importance of the internet and media in our Parish – this medium allowing us to proclaim the Gospel and to create easy access liturgical services. May the intercessory prayer of our Lady of Loreto assist us and sustain us in this effort in all our words and deeds. God bless all of you for your support. Let us use every instrument available to enrich our faith and evangelize others.
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.”
- Mark 16:15
