"For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." - Galatians 3:27
Preparation for receiving the Sacraments is most important. We must learn their meaning, why we make them, what they give us, and to learn about the Catholic faith and Jesus’ teachings.
There are Seven Sacraments:
Baptism
Baptism is a Sacrament which cleanses us from original sin, makes us Christians, children of God, and heirs of heaven. Usually received soon after birth or any time thereafter.
A Baptismal Preparation Program is required. Please call the rectory three months prior to the birth of your child. Click here for more.
Reconciliation
Confession is the telling of our sins to a duly authorized priest, for the purpose of obtaining forgiveness. First Penance/confession is made just prior to making first communion. Two Years of Religious Education preparation for First Penance/Frist Communion. More here.
Eucharist
The Holy Eucharist is the Sacrament which contains the body and blood, soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine. Received for the first time when making First Communion at the age of seven or in grade two. Two years of Religious Education preparation required. Click here for more.
Confirmation
Confirmation is a Sacrament through which we receive the Holy Ghost to make us strong and perfect Christians and soldiers of Jesus Christ. Children receive their Confirmation while in ninth grade. For preparation, children attend Religious Education classes from first to ninth grade. More here.
Matrimony
The Sacrament of Matrimony is the Sacrament which unites a Christian man and woman in lawful marriage.
The chief ends of the Sacrament of matrimony are:
1. To enable the husband and wife to aid each other in securing the salvation of their souls;
2. To propagate or keep up the existence of the human race by bringing children into the world to serve God;
3. To prevent sins against the holy virtue of purity by faithfully obeying the laws of the marriage state.
Marriage preparation classes are required. Please contact Fr. Bernad one year prior to the Marriage. Click here for more.
Anointing of the Sick/Extreme Unction
Extreme Unction is the Sacrament which, through the anointing and prayer of the priest, gives health and strength to the soul, and sometimes to the body, when we are in danger of death from sickness. Call the parish office immediately at the time of emergency, especially at the time of death.
Please advise us of anyone from your family who is homebound, sick or in the hospital that we might keep them in our prayers, visit them or bring them communion, or administer the anointing of the sick.
Holy Orders
Holy Orders is a Sacrament by which bishops, priests, and other ministers of the Church are ordained and receive the power and grace to perform their sacred duties. To receive Holy Orders worthily it is necessary to be in the state of grace, to have the necessary knowledge and a divine call to this sacred office.
If you feel God may be calling you to serve as a priest, see the pastor or call the diocesan Vocations Office at 401-331-1316 or visit catholicpriest.com.
RCIA
We also offer RCIA for adults wishing to enter into the Catholic Church or for adults who are baptized, but have not made the other Sacraments.
