Our history
This committee officially began on November 29, 1994. The concept was to bring social justice and respect life issues together as we reach out to those with special needs. We have a great responsibility as Catholics to use what little space and time we have to be “beams of love.” This was certainly the way of Jesus throughout his life and ministry.
Social Outreach Committee
What we do
We invited parishioners to join our committee to share their Time, Talent and Treasure in various ways.
Social Outreach is based on Matthew 25: 31-40: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me. Then the righteous* will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe y ou? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?”
Our committee has been instrumental in various ways like the weekly food collection, hosting a baby shower, serving the homebound and residents of a local nursing care and assisted living facility through the “friendly visitor program” and by bringing the holy Eucharist to the home-bound residents every Sunday. The “Love thy Neighbor” program reaches out to those who had special and direct needs whether it be food, prescriptions, utilities, or rent.
Respect Life Committee
What we do
The other aspect of our committee, Respect Life, is to create an awareness of God’s gift of life from the womb to the end of life and to educate the parish on all that happens on the journey of life as outlined in the United State Conference of Bishops Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities. Respecting life begins at the moment of conception and includes abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide, reaching out to the homeless, those who are imprisoned, understanding just wars, and end of life issues.
Annual events
We offer two fundraisers annually to support the ministry. We have offered a macaroni dinner and a buffet breakfast in our parish hall. Our goal from the beginning is to reach out to our own parishioners and to nearby neighbors and to bring the entire parish community together to reach out with hands like Jesus.
Under the umbrella of Christ guided by pastor and with the assistance of parish committee, our members began offering a prayer group and sponsoring the Miraculous Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima, the 33 Days of Consecration, and a day of prayer and adoration.
